Oil and Gas Royalties
The oil and gas companies are looking out for their own best interests.  Who is looking out for yours?  Are you being paid the full royalty to which you are entitled?  We can help you with answers to these questions.
Landowners who lease their land for oil and gas exploration and development effectively give up ownership of between 75% and 87.5% of their minerals.  In exchange, the company is supposed to explore and drill for minerals, produce them, and make the produced products -- oil and / or gas -- marketable.  The company is then supposed to pay the landowner their percentage, usually from 12.5% to 25%.  Oil and gas companies have, however, over the decades come up with numerous schemes to underpay, skim, and sometimes outright steal money from the landowners.  Royalty litigation is usually the only way a landowner can vindicate their rights.  Usually, this is done through a class action against the oil and gas company seeking to recover not only on behalf of the person named as the plaintiff in the suit, but on behalf of a class of royalty owners.

  • The firm has years of experience litigating against oil and gas companies such as XTO Energy, ExxonMobile, ConocoPhillips, and others to vindicate the rights of royalty owners.

    • See, for example, the firm's web site regarding ongoing litigation with XTO Energy over natural gas royalties in Beer v. XTO.

  • Typically, we front all the costs, pay the experts needed to evaluate and prosecute your case, and the firm only gets paid if we recover royalty underpayments.
